Valdes Birthday South Beach Style

Every year, certain little cliques of the uber chic from all sorts of interesting backgrounds and places look forward to coming to Michael Valdes’ birthday party in Miami. There is always a color theme and this year the all-black theme brought a sleek chic to the party. And… really, doesn’t everyone just look better in black?

The dear boy is Senior Vice President of ONE Sotheby’s Realty, specializing in an ultra-wealthy clientele. (Now… he won’t tell you but I will – his clientele includes celebs, industry leaders in the U.S. and in Europe and a few royals here and there for added sparkle).

For this 43rd birthday, Michael took over the penthouse at the historic Albion Hotel on Miami Beach. Built in 1939 it’s a beautiful example of nautical Art Deco architecture inspired by the ocean liners of the era.

The day before the party, Michael had just flown back from Greece, where he was a houseguest of some pals from London in Mykonos. They were in the villa – with gourmet chef and all – that Elton John had rented the prior week. All that and a lovely 360 degree view of the Aegean Sea and the Mykonos countryside.

He was rested and tanned – Michael, not Elton – and pulled together the last details for the party. There were about 80 near and dear there, including interior designer Nacho Polo and husband, TV star Victor Sandoval, both from Madrid. Richard Perez-Feria, former editor of People Magazine en Espanol; Ross Yasgur – yes of Woodstock’s Yasgur’s farm fame; and many of Miami’s glitterati, artsy and social crowd. And we partied and partied, sleek and chic, into the night.
